Boyhood
Championing positive masculinity and the many ways of being a boy
We are inspired by the work taking place at the school to develop positive experiences of boyhood for pupils. We have adopted a slight adaptation of the school’s tagline of ‘Today’s Boys, Tomorrow’s Leaders’ within our strategies and aim to help provide opportunities for the pupils of today to develop their sense of the adults they wish to become, and how they can make this a reality.
We recognise that it is perhaps more challenging than ever to be a school aged boy today in a world that is full of negative influences and unkind perceptions of them. Our aim is to work with the school and students to champion work that is taking place within the school – and develop new initiatives that;
Put students at the centre of the work we do and allows them to help shape our approach through student engagement
Celebrate the many different ways of being a boy
Open up opportunities for them to meet men from a wide range of backgrounds and learn about how their sense of masculinity has helped shaped their achievements
Elevate the importance of the work the school is doing in this space and help our experts to contribute and lead conversations at the local, regional and national level
The above video is an example of the thoughtful and caring nature of students at William Ellis and the importance placed on giving them the platform to work through and voice their beliefs. It forms part of a wider project undertaken with Middlesex University. You can read more about the school’s work on this area on the “Why Boys’ Education?” section of the school website. The expertise within the school is of great value in developing future successful men both through and outside of the school.
We know that supporting boys to develop into considerate and passionate men provides benefits to all in society.
We have recently supported the school to appoint an existing staff member to lead student voice and activism within the school through funding the additional temporary salary costs. This role will provide opportunities for our students to influence both the school and their wider community.
We look forward to unveiling more plans and initiatives in the months ahead.
Do you have a great idea for an opportunity or program that will deliver value to William Ellis and other Camden pupils? Are you an existing Camden organisation that would like to partner with the Trust on an initiative?
We are always open to new ideas and would love to hear from you with ideas you may have.
